Bigotry is a plague that affects the security and wellness of people of color. As we continue to witness the injustices that exist as a result of bigotry, one thing is clear: It isn’t enough for our white allies to just be “not racist”; they must be anti-racist. The meaning of bigotry

The difference between being not racist and anti-racist

To not be racist implies that somewhere in your humankind you realize that all human beings have an equal right to regard and tolerance. While racism is a prevalent and deadly problem, you must actively work to combat it. In order to not aid in racism, you need to openly denounce it and demand modification.

By being anti-racist, you acknowledge that something is horribly broken and has to be repaired. Anti-racism needs genuine methods and practices to challenge and counter racism in all of its subsets.

Here are some ways to be anti-racist:

  • Speak up when you hear a racist joke among friends, household, or coworkers.
  • Contribute to respectable causes that require assistance to aid marginalized groups.
  • Learn where your advantage comes from and how it impacts others adversely.
  • Become more active in dismantling racist systems (underserved schools, criminal justice reform, healthcare advocacy)

Bigotry did not take place overnight and it will not end that method. However if we all actively do our part we can really effect real modification on the planet.
